In 1997, four families came together with the idea of improving the lives of disadvantaged producers through trade. They were inspired by the work of Ten Thousand Villages and were keen to see the principles of Fair Trade applied to foods we consume every day. Level Ground’s first Fair Trade initiative was buying coffee from a cooperative in Colombia. Fair Trade premiums are directed to educational scholarships in the coffee growing region and the project has grown to support 200 scholarships per year! Now, they have grown to import the annual harvest of 5,000 farmers in 10 countries.
Level Ground Trading is a Fair Trade Organization and direct wholesaler of coffee, tea, dried fruit, cane sugar, heirloom rice, vanilla beans, coconut oil and spices. At home in Victoria BC, Level Ground sends nothing to landfill, pays staff to bicycle to work and reclaims their packaging for upcycling and composting!
Level Ground Trading is located in Victoria, British Columbia, Canada. Their products come from small-scale farms in 10 different countries.
