Over the long weekend I cleaned out my closet with some of our tricks in mind (stay tuned for a recap!) and it seemed like the perfect time to dig up this worksheet I drafted awhile back when thinking of how tough it is to get started with a conscious closet. Whether you’re finishing up your spring cleaning or breaking out the summer clothes, now is such a good time to commit to a more mindful style. But how?
There are so many ways to do a closet audit, but if you want to make sure your clothes don’t just look good and make you feel confident, but really represent YOU–through fair and sustainable practices or one of a kind designs or whatever you value–there are a couple extra steps to take. Don’t worry, it’s pretty straight forward and we have a worksheet to help!
Being from the PNW, for example, pretty much everyone I know is pretty environmentally conscious. They really care and love Earth and want to treat it well. It doesn’t make sense, then, for us to wear (and therefore promote) unsustainable fashion brands and/or materials, many of which are taking down the rainforest and contributing to global warming on a massive scale.
Heavy stuff. I know. But why should our values and belongings live in such opposition? Since I’ve started digging into how I can match up my own values with the clothes I wear and products I buy, I’ve felt so much happier and more confident in my clothes. I feel more resourceful, more creative, more original–all things I’d want my style to say about me anyway. And I’ve really only just begun.
Ok, so how to have a more mindful style without getting so overwhelmed you give up on the whole conscious shopping thing altogether? We’re hoping this little worksheet we created will help. You can download it and use it to keep track of your journey to mindful style. In it, you’ll find a space to learn more about your fave brands and log discoveries of others and more. (And if you get stuck on how to shop mindfully, be sure to browse our ethical shopping section for guides and tips.) If you love fashion and have always wanted your personal style to feel like an extension of your being, mindful style is so much more fulfilling.
You can save it to your desktop and fill it in over time, no need to do it all at once!
Let us know if this inspires you to hone in on your personal style. We’d love to hear your feedback!
